| In 2002 VIVA invented the SU series which comprised of a line voltage socket with a removable ballast. This pioneering technology allowed the ballast to be easily replaced when it reached end of life without tampering with line voltage wires. |

| In the summer of 2004, Energy Star announced that it will hold open competitions to standardize the line voltage socket. VIVA eventually won the competition and Energy Star has announced plans to standardize the design in future specifications. |

| VIVA also took part in developing standards for the Shanghai region. The SU13 socket was chosen as the standard for energy saving socket with integrated electronic ballast for CFLs. |
